Thanks for that Kev, very useful but apparently the aftermarket tanks don't have any filters

however I will be dropping the tank and having a look inside with an endoscope later this week all being well, thanks for everyone's thoughts

And the injection tanks have some sort of 'swirl' chamber and larger bore outlet compared to others. I'm not sure what that looks like in comparison to Kev's pictures.

Those pics from the US would be of a fuel injection tank being as they ditched carbs first

Aftermarket tanks look nothing like that, klokkerholm ones are terrible. Ended up throwing a new one away as it wouldn't pull fuel out unless it was at least 1/4 full. It had a solid feed pipe coming out of the central swirl pot which rose up sharply 3 inches into the tank before swooping back down to the outlet. pump couldn't handle pulling the fuel up the 'hill'. Also the return lip on the breather holes in the top of the tank were too thick so the breather rubbers wouldn't stay in. New tank from ATP in Germany and all was well again.

Good spot SB
That is a VW injection tank.
The carb tank isn't massively different either

Well I'm learning something here, all the tanks I've changed but I've never ripped one open to see what they look like.

... So what constitutes the 'swirl' chamber then?

Apparently the 20mm depression in the very bottom of the tank under the plate under the 2 filters you see in the pics.

Right before I drop the tank and possibly buy another ( where is the best place) could anyone pull their outlet off an injection tank to see if what I have is the norm (yea they all do that) yes I know its a strange request, but I have nowt else to compare it with, mine is fine until she has been run for a bit, then it starts to cavitate, tried blowing down the return yesterday to see what came from the outlet no problem until I stopped blowing, then as usual fuel remained in tank, put a thin tube up the outlet no blockage blew down the thin tube and again fuel came out until I stopped blowing?

Does sound like the outlet strainer is getting clogged. Each time you blow up the tube it momentarily clears (basically you have back-flushed it), then all the sediment flows back to the strainer and it gets blocked again.
