Excellent - thank you, very clear. This all points to using the pressure sender locations that VW chose, so either the one between the pushrod tubes on the left of the engine, or the one near the pulley at the back.

I went for the between-the-pushrods taking the extension hose to the tinware in the corner - easier to get at, and less chance of damaging the hose if a belt snaps and exits rapidly.

No thats an electric sender but you need a t piece all the same and I don't think a standard 50mm one will fit because it's buried between pushrods.
so you need a 500mm remote t piece which you can see in the pics, it needs earthing well so your standard switch will work.

There's an electric sender, yes - the bulbous thing - but what's the bit with the cupro-nickel pipe coming out of it?[/quote]

The extension's the only thing going in down by the pushrods. The T goes onto the other end, as there.

The ally bean-can to the right is the sender for the pressure gauge, which is screwed into the T (under the bracket)
Nearer the camera/"down" in the pic, there's a thingummy screwed in, with a black rubber boot and what appears to be a cupro-nickel brake pipe emerging, not a wire.

Ah I see what you mean
no thats a trick of perspective, its the stock switch, boot and brown wire that was between pushrods

I've took mine from the same place but the sender unit has 2 conections on it, one for the original low pressure light and a second for the gauge.
The braided hose screws straight onto the back of the sender.
