You can smell the difference between engine oil and gearbox oil - gearbox oil smells of... cat's pee is the best description!

Okey that blows that theory then, ha. I'm pretty sure the puddle always smelt like normal engine oil.. Back to the drawing board. How do I get pics up guys is it through photo bucket? Can't find out how to do it, this may help a diagnosis. Thanks.

Hi oldie. No crack. I have to assume the oil leak was from the gearbox input shaft seal. I have a replacement ready to go. Does anybody know what to do with the spigot bearing? I have a new one I'm just wondering whether or not it should be greased or dry.
Any help greatfully received.

Just incase anybody ever reads this I will update. The spigot bearing and gearbox input shaft seal were replaced but this didn't do the job. I have now had the engine out AGAIN and have replaced the crank seal and fly wheel oil seal. This seams to have done the trick. The flywheel oil seal did appear to be a little flat so it is possible that this didn't get replaced during the rebuild and could have been the culprit. Happy days.

Dead spigot bearing and a re-used crankahaft oil seal... ffs there are some right Dick Turpins out there.
