Working through it. Just wondering whether the copper earth strap is any better than the standard. Ordered the 14.5v voltage reg from Ebay

Dead easy to change, basically just 2 screws to remove. Getting the new one in at the right angle, so it fits into place, so you can get the screws started, is a bit of a faff, especially if your fingers are freezing, but all in all a ~15 minute job really. Take off both battery +ve leads before starting the job, for safety.

I had all manner of electrical problems with my van when I first got it. Leisure battery draining, stereo rebooting when ever i did anything with lights / indicators, very poor beams on lights. I decided that electrics we certainly not my area of expertise and decided to take it to an auto electricians (Nelson Auto Electrics, Dale Abbey, Derby). Cost me two hours labor and that included fitting my new stereo. Problem was a bad earth from Body to engine. £100 well spent and it sorted every issue. Not saying it's what everybody has to do as some are more willing to tackle these issues on their own (with the help of peeps on here and the very very extensive wiki).

Got the ramps now-going to do it myself. Funnily enough the radio had been losing its programmed stations.
Any thoughts on whether the copper earth strap is worth waiting for/paying extra for

Just to finish the thread:

New voltage regulator's brushes on right hand side are more than twice the length of these worn ones

Voltage regulator fitted, cost under a tenner and the voltage has gone up by 1.3v immediately before fitting earth strap which hasn't arrived yet. The long bolt at the base of the alternator didn't have a nut at the end. I take it that there should be one? Thanks for the advice
Whilst fitting that I noticed coolant had been coming out of the header tank and the top up was nearly empty. Aggh
Looks like more cooling system fun
