The FAS products do look good. It would be handy if the looms were ok to use on a euro engine as I'd prefer to get everything I need in one package.

If done properly with a full sgis closed loop system then I don't see why not.

For the 1.8T the FAS kit works and is available from MV Engineering. Syncroandy did my loom and I am working on simplifying all the plumbing at the moment. Don't be tempted by the 225HP BAM version as the crankshaft bolt pattern is not compatible with the adapter kit flywheels. Convention is to install the engine at 15 degrees which means raising the engine hatch by about and inch so I am looking at my own mounts and front subframe to try and overcome this.

Duncan: basically a small body lift then? Subframe and engine/transmission spacers and swingarms getting a little stretch?

Trial fit next weekend and careful measurement of prop angle will be deciding factor. Ian i am surprised you don't offer an adapter plate as I am sure the 1.8T will become popular once a few have been done and no one should have to lay out the best part of £10,000 for an American install kit that doesn't even include the engine.

PS Your van and Ahmet's truck seem to be progressing well or are those old pics?

Pictures not been updated for a while. Both back on their wheels now and all the fiddly bits to do. The space-framed single cab is an exceptional piece of craftsmanship.

It's been a few years since this page was updated - what's the latest thinking on swapping in a more recent petrol engine?

Any VW 2.0 8V inline (AGG etc) will return good mileage because of the torque spread afforded by the long-stroke architecture.
Its simple and reliable, direct swap from a JX diesel, what more do you want?
The 1.8T 20v is a popular choice when installed at about 16 degrees from vertical. Torque/power and off-boost economy but requires a raised hatch in a 2wd.

That's what my original post was about really, nearly all of the T25 engine swaps i've seen use engines from two or more decades ago, I was curious if anyone had put in a properly modern VW engine, particularly petrol.
