Do it! Be good to see someone put their own spin on it. Not saying I'll like it but I bet it'll be bloody practical to say the least. How much did you say it would be to rent for the week????

personally I would drag a trailer tent, light, spacious, big enough to get all your crap in, put bikes on and easy to store or sell on if the family don't like it
you could even have an awning on the van to connect to it
