You can get a carbon monoxide detector that will bleep but then again you're stuffed if the batteries die.

So can you fit a connector to your FANNY BLOWER that will plug into your cig lighter or run off your back up/leisure battery ?????.

Unless you get a 12v one no.............a 240v would drain your lesuire battery in about 8 secs

I slept in the overhead bunk and was sick [proper sick] for 3 days with the fumes ! MASSIVE HEADACHE + vomiting ... was really ill ... Dont know if a Black Cat type one would have the same effect as open flame ? but wouldn't risk it in confined space.

Don't bugger about with any heaters that don't draw and exhaust externally. All it takes is one uckfup an your deed. You and yer wummin.
I've lived in a snow hole in the NZ alps at 2000m for two weeks- as long as you wear enough clothes and have a big duvet you'll be toastie and alive. Better to do that and save for a proper heater than asphixiate.

dont pi$$ about with oil filled rads when on hook up, not powerfull enugh if it is cold, a £5 fan heater is cheap and works well, and you wont need to leave it on overnight in this warm country anyway, unless your not bothering taking a good quilt.
as for portable gas heaters...... dead cheap, dead warm, dead owners.
Ebberspacher or propex work out cheaper in the long run, by te time you have bought and decided not to use a portable gas heater, been cold and then seen senseand bought a ebber, you may as well have bought the ebber in the first place.....

I have the Mr. Buddy heater (as seen on the link in the beginning of this thread). It works a treat as it's HIGH setting is quite quick to warm up the inside of the van, then you can keep it on low for the rest of the night. It lasts 3 hrs on HIGH setting and 6 hours on LOW.
Unlike dangerous heaters, this one is good quality and has several important safety features. If it tilts, it will shut off. If the flame goes off, it will shut off. If the oxygen supply is low, it will shut off.
Of course, I tested it to make sure all those safety features worked. As for the low oxygen test, I placed it in my car with the windows shut. Sure enough within one minute, it turned itself off.
You are meant to have a window open when running these heaters. Just Campers has front window grill vents that provide security and allow the windows to be open on T3s.
The Mr. Buddy model I have does not have a fan (nor do I need one in my opinion) but they do make a upscale model that has one (runs off batteries).
Another good thing is that it has a wall mount (the back of the unit is always cold) so I placed two screws that hold it in the position as seen below (so in theory you can drive with it on). Another good plus. (But make sure you remove the vehicle's battery before you drill the holes and sand down any of the screw's sharp bits - Ask me how I know!)
Think of it as a Poor Man's Propex.
In my opinion, even if you do camp at campsites with mains, you should have a heater that operates without any electricity, should you decide to camp far from home and unexpectantly have to camp or stop the van for an extended time (eg storm) or have an electrical fault.
Having a heater like this, gives you piece of mind that you can camp anywhere. I also have an mains electrical heater which is what I always use for the main cabin.
More info on how we keep warm: The top bunk (where my kids sleep) has an electric blanket. Me, the Missus and the kids all have sleeping bags of good quality as well.
Notice the "Hassock" chemical toilet. In the upper left, it actually has a picture of a T3 with a family camping. Basically a pi$$ pot

Mr George Spannerack flogs the second hand diesel Ebber of which we speak, as in so many things 
timing is everything with these though, George is fair all year,The bay of Fleas is extremely seasonal ... but who wants one in July ?

MurphyX....I would not have enjoyed camping last night in our area, with no heating.
At 6.30 this morning the Temp in my conservatory was 68. And that is with small rad installed. The water in my water butt had 2ins of ice on top and all the cars and roof tops loked as though it had been snowing with the frost

We (2 adults and 2 kids) camped every month for the 1st 12 months of having our Bus ... July 2004 > June 2005, including The Freeze '05 where it was -5 outside and -1 INSIDE our ex-panel van. The common sense approach is to invest and I mean INVEST in either a Propex or Eberspacher heater, the worst thing comes to the worst and you can always resell the thing when you evolve to a newer/better camper.
