Re the "cool down phase" on Propex heaters. As mentioned somewhere above mine does not do it. iirc the guy at Propex told me the earlier ones did not have this feature, but I may be wrong. Another member here has fitted a remote switching relay and spliced the live feed from it to the orange wire from the control box and even with the main box in the OFF position his runs the cool down phase when switching off via the extra relay. This has me a bit puzzled. I am wondering if the cool down phase switching and timing is done inside the Propex or via the control box. From what Jeff finds I am guessing it is done inside the heater. Any thoughts folks / Jeff ?

In fact could any Propex users reading this post whether theirs has a cool down phase (talking the old Red "Compact 1600" model here by the way).

The early ones relied on an internal thermostat for its over run, so if the heater did not get to a certain temperature there would be no cool down period. In the very very early ones this was a 40*C stat so could come on its own on a hot day !!

I'm not sure why anyone would actually want to do this, but you could, from the comfort of your warm duvet, operate up to TEN things with a remote:

Just an idea. ie Turn on the stereo in the early hours, much to the delight of other camper owners. Perhaps a laser light show so you can find your camper in the dark?

Mind you, the wiring could be a right birds nest.

Also. if you buy a fixed code RF remote, you can change it as shown here:

and even change the chip if you only want a momentary rather than latching response - and the other way around.

Just a quick update , been using my remote for a couple of weeks now and it's working fine , runs its cooling down phase the same as if I used the control box to turn it off

I've actually relented and decided to augment the timer with a remote. This orange wire, which/where? Is this the seperate box to the thermostat as I only have white/green in thermostat.

I used the info on here to source and connect a remote to my Propex 2000.

Using the orange wire (thanks Jeff) worked fine to turn it on and off, and the heater did it's cool down cycle correctly. However, the orange wire is the output wire from the thermostat, so the heater was uncontrolled. I therefore had a dig into the thermostat unit and found that by soldering wires to the back of the rocker switch you could actually provide the switching action before the 'stat, therefore it remains temperature controlled.

I took the feed for the remote switch from the back of the switch as well, and soldered a wire to the back of the negative connector so all connections for the remote were internal to the thermostat box.

So cooling cycle still intact and heater temperature controlled.
