Duncan.

If no one else wants it I'm intrested...assume by pressure plate you mean spring...not friction?

Same as mine then. I think that you will need a lot more torque from your petrol engine if you want it to have any kind of get up and go, never mind with a load on. How many Nm have you got to play with?
What's the mph per 1000 in top?

Has your flywheel been refaced, Paul? If so it's possible that the outer bolt face wasn't machined to match and the pot depth is wrong, reducing clamping force. I can't see a couple of muddy hillocks killing a JX clutch that quick, it should handle G gear and full launch mode! I'd check that old flywheel before anything else, then maybe a Black Diamond?

Tend to agree...
Something not right in that clutch?

Also don't be fooled that its power at revs the problem... when a clutch is slipping up a hill you want to go down a gear, up the revs to climb.. for very good engineering reasons.
Start by checking..
a) what AJ just said
b) freeplay as mentioned before.. not full travel you're looking for but freeplay.
c) Reduce wheel/ tyre size to increase rpm & reduce torque for a given driving force.

I get occasional slip and smell when towing out well stuck trucks and holding on clutch but can tow two ton + on road up hill & down dale and drive offroad for hours at high temps in a heavily loaded Doka... with a fairly torquey AAZ...
on a bog std. JX clutch.
Geared for 70 at about 3600 rpm IIRC
