Make sure you do everything, starter motor, alternated and all electrical connections inc earth conns under the engine hatch or you will get loads of electrical faults later.
When cleaned up cover in petroleum jelly and spray everything with loads of wd40.

I've doused the engine several times with water and water mixed with bicarbonate I think I got away without causing damage... Unless it eats it slowly !!!
Here are some pics
This was blue !
Took the paint off the filter !
Pipes
All in I think I've been lucky this time !
Bicarbonate soda is now part of my tool kit !!!
Thanks once again
Any further advice gladly taken

It is a bit high, are you sure about the meter. What reading do you get without the engine running.

back with my findings !
After not being started since this morning 11ish battery read at 12.72v which is normal.
started up and running on driveway for 2 mins 14.36v
after a 5 mins drive round the block on driveway 14.30v
then with lights/blower/hazards on 13.88v
turned off lights/blower hazards it reads 14.26v
pretty normal ?? or worth buying one of these
though they do look different but guessing its more of an error with the pics !

Just had a look through some of the spares the previous German owner gave me and I found this unused
The long number 1 197 311 028 matches the one fitted so I guess I already have the part???!?
Worth fitting ? Or are my readings okay ??

Do I need to fit ? Are readings to high ? From what I've read on the interweb readings should be under 14.5v which they are
Is it easy to fit ?
