if you freeze 2 or 5 litre bottles of water and put them in your esky they keep things cold longer than the packs of ice

All your beer/wine/milk/salad/bacon etc needs to come directly out of the fridge or freezer and straight into the cooler box.
Use as many ice packs as you can 10 - 20 is good.
Don't put warm stuff in there on camp expecting it to cool.
Lift the lid as few times as you can, for as less time as you can.
Don't allow the cooler to sit in direct sunlight.
