Hi Marlin. Think I might have seen your previous post about this, and it did spur me on to get a new regulator unit. Sadly that didn't sort it

I suspect it's something simple that's internal to the alternator (hence why places do refurbs), I'm just being impatient because of a big trip on Friday. I can limp along with jump pack, solar etc but it's a faff. :-/

Fair dos, did that and they replied in under 15 mins, good work.
Sadly no stock.
I've read vague talk about golf alternators dropping straight in, but nothing specific enough to feel confident splashing the cash.
Might have to limp along for the rest of June then see what's what next month. Or pay £350ish for the fully fitted price from a south london VW Aircooled specialist.

Oh and thanks for the help so far.
If it looks like I'm being impatient and stamping feet, it's because it's the one thing I though would be easy to sort.
My ignorance shows.
Oh and maybe it's also because I fell in love my van again a few weeks ago, ambling around France.

If you're near Leicester there's a small place called green's that will test and fix a dodgy alternator for £40ish. I've got no experience with this stuff but the good ol' Haynes manual shows you how to get it out and it's easy once you get going

Thanks Lloydy and Jayjaysee - am now seeing if I can track down that breaker; and although I'm not particularly near Leicester, it's still worth a try for repair if all else fails.
