Cheap option is 1Y with a petrol gearbox instead of the diesels old one, swap the bellhousing and input shaft and remember to fit a spigot bearing to the new engine. If real long term ownership tidy van then TDi would be the choice I think. So are you in this van for 12-18 months or 'for life'

i fitted a reconditioned tdi from the passat to mine, wasnt too hard, swapped the electronic pump for a mechanical one which i mated to the old one. thats more difficult but can be done. now it runs well and returns 45 miles per gallon. would defo recommend it, but its not for the faint hearted.

Sorry, but 45MPG is not possible with a Tdi in a T3.

They are great engines though. :ok :ok

LPG is the best fuel for London, very low emissions and cheap. Id say fit an AAG gti and run lpg via a Blos 'carb' type conversion. We are already being fined by the Eu for such poor air quality in London.
