how about a T2 front wheel carrier on the tailgate

Dokas. That space between the loadbed and the engine bed... Ahhh! Never 'quite' enough depth for anything really useful - about 5" I think.

I thought at first the wheel on front was compromising the cooling especially in the summer. I think the wheel cover doesn't help either. But since having a new engine the problem doesn't seem to exist. I thought it would look better on the rear though and also I can only get a 205 14 c on the front and I am running 215 14 c's. Its OK as long as I don't get a puncture!

Hmm, interesting about the cooling. It's been bothering me slightly.

I have 205/70x15s and one of them would definitely fit in the space on the bull bar. I think it would look quite good on the front (sort of trad VW T2-ish) but I am now really tempted by the rear carriers. Dilemma..... :?

I have heard several times that it doesn't actually affect the cooling much if at all, though think if a cover is on it might do...

But for a diesel which needs every bit it can get, I wouldn't personally.

Hi Kev
I spent some time thinking about this, but ended up just buying a Paulchen bike rack (which I'm still trying to get the right brackets for!)!! Any chance of a link to the Landy racks you're talking about to get an idea of how these might work. I may well be interested, but it depends how it would all fit together....

Cheers
John

I priced up getting a new origonal and between VW, Gunzi and my local engineering supplier, it would cost almost €1100.00 excluding the welding involved for the strengthening inside the panels - which would, no doubt, add a trip to the paint shop on top of everything. Im interested in seeing what transpires with this project ..........

I'll have one if they are any good

Submitted the drawings to the engineer this morning. They are taking the van in on tuesday for a fitting. Should see a working prototype by the end of next week. Watch this space. :D

Patience chaps
Fully drawn in cad, hinge assembly has been made in laser cut steel. We are waiting for some fibre washers and I cant push this any more. Its definately coming together and what I have seen, has been superb.
Pete.
