Would it not be possible to break it up using a small sharp metal chisel (like I did with my starter motor bush )

I know this is not quite the same, but i had same issues with the spigot bearing on my tractor, same situation exactly, nothing left except the outer shell. I tried everything, ended up breaking a chisel tip with no joy, tried grinding it was like peeing in the wind. Then i read somewhere, take the flywheel off and hey presto a simple tap out. Hours of frustration for nothing. Not sure if it is the same for these buses though! Just an idea.

tried that and no joy at all. Back to the drawing board

Flywheels already off and the little buggers not budging at all. Now I need another bearing as I've buggered this one. Try again in a few days me thinks. Then if that don't work maybe new engine time

You might be able to put some heat on it. That will sometimes shift items that are an interference fit. But before you try that:

Some have had success with rawlbolts for grip. You might like to watch this as it applies to many blind hole bearing situations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NlIqfDOt9U" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - you just need to find something that will fit well. You can also get blind bearing pullers and slide hammer pullers if you search around. You may be able to make one from odds and ends.

I think if it were me, I'd find something that I could get to bite whats left, fixed to the end of a long bolt (may need to be welded on). On the other end slide on a piece of metal tubing (that will act as the slide), a suitably sized socket for the slide to hammer against, followed by a nut and use it as a rudimentary slide hammer. Needs to be long to get enough power but you get the idea. Should shift it eventually.

I've tried pullers,slide hammers, pretty much everything we can think of. I've just ordered another bearing as we've knackered the other one. I think my only resort is to grind little by little and see if I can get the bugger to fit and stay put.
