Would it be possible to double over the fabric? then you have same on both sides plus a curtain that is better at blocking light.

I have them facing in and have black out liner on the back. They are pretty thick though.

Could I ask you folk for you r recommendations?
After a lot of deliberation I am going to fit curtains to our bus to make it more of a "weekender" so the curtains will probably be quite sombre to match the grey/black interior. Fabric is not really a problem but what about getting mini-sized tape for the hooks and for that matter, where to buy good quality branded track etc like Silent Gliss, without getting ripped off? It's got to be a quality job, so that I can be sure of getting spares in the future.

Motorhome/caravan shops have tracks and hooks,
We managed to get some narrow header tape from Dunelm. Ours had tape and tracks top and bottom so it holds them next to the window. Lining with black out material is good.
you could use those wires people use for net curtains?
I suppose Westi's have something better!
You might find that a set of thermo mats are cheaper and do just as good a job,

Definitely pattern facing in - the white lining on the outside then does a pretty good job of reflecting the heat back out the window when the sun comes up in the morning. If you leave the pattern facing out all the heat that is absorbed by the darker pattern ends in the van.
