ASk the garage for the compression test figures, they can tell you a lot, or get someone local to comp test it, and then do one with a drop of oil down the dodgy cylinder, theer are various ways of determining if its just valves or piston/rings...

when they say cylinder they should mean cylinder, not head.. but they wouldn't know exactly, generally would be rings if they say cylinder.

:? have phoned the number u suggested ahd and they didnt have anything in (have only had 2 vans in this yr) but they gave me a no for a mechanic who has recently set up on his own and is VW trained. Hoping to get her in for a compression test first and then take it from there. will i get the results from this and have to try and work it out for myself or will i get the results and he explain what it means? if i need help is it ok for me to ring you :D :D :D :D :D :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: being a woman and all not knowing much lol (only want my little un to have te best home she could and dont want to have her and not look after her well).

Yes sure, post them here, but when they do the test, there might be subsequent test to do to determine further what problems are e.g. leakdown test, oil down plug hole etc. :)

If they know what they're really doing they should be able to tell you fairly well what the problem seems to be... but stay in touch
