or, if you're just trying to get through the MOT, the blue/white wire to dash multiplug is the high beam warning. You can connect into that with a cheap 12v panel bulb if you need a visual indication for high beam. Doesn't particularly matter where you put it (through grill in centre of dash if need be). As long as you can see it and know what the light is, thats all the MOT inspector will care about.

I hope you don't mind if jump in on this thread, but I have a similar problem in so far as High beam warning light not working. Removed the bulb ( fingers) tested it and works OK. Haynes Manual information indicates that the fuse No 5 is for N/S head lamp and High beam warning light. High Beam is working.
Any ideas please will be much appreciated.

Take the bulb out along with it's holder. Then use your meter to test for 12V on one side of the holder (the copper "contact" bit on the PCB), with hi beam on of course, and earth on the other contact. If no 12 volt work backwards down that track on the PCB/plug and wiring. If no earth work along that track to discover why. Likely a bad connection at either the bulb holder or the multiplug. There is a 100 Ohm resistor in the feed to the bulb by the way (to make it dimmer) but that is unlikely to be faulty (but might be = measure it on your meters nearest appropriate resistance scale)

Thanks John...Checked resistor 100 ohms so that is OK As for bulb, yup, can remove OK, bit concerned about removing holder??
Now sorted John. Checked as suggested, getting weird voltage readings on both connections. Aneway got a small brush and contact cleaner, gave the bulb holder a quick swish done the job.
Again John thanks for input.
