I think Gasure are now doing a conversion with a different take off valve so you can run your heater, cooker and fridge from the same tank you use for the engine. No need to carry gas bottles less weight and more storage space. I wish I had had that done when ours was converted.

please remember if your going to bulgaria use the words yes and no as the head gestures for these mean the opposite to us you could be admitting to something you haven`t done

We've got a 1989 1600 td that's just done us proud. Only had to top up the oil, and didn't use a litre over 2300 miles around France over 3 weeks.
Channel tunnel crossing and down the east through Champagne region, Avignon, the Med, then across to the west via Carcassonne to Saint Jean de Luz (great place!) on the France Spain border. Day trip to San Sebastian was the wettest day we had..... Then up the west through Aracachon then Isle de Re and onto St Malo for the ferry crossing to Portsmouth.
Might even get the small patches of rust taken out of her now since she was so good!
The van you've put the deposit on looks very nice!

We did 2,500 miles round France,Belgium & Holland this summer ... The Bus (1989 1.9 water-cooled DG running on lpg) never missed a beat. It leaked ~1/4 pint of oil and used/lost roughly the same of coolant mixture. I checked the levels every morning. LPG (or GPL) is widely available,though you need the special adaptors, and in France costs ~0.75€/ltr, Belgium was 0.46€/ltr and Holland similar.
My advice would be to carry the essential spares (and tools to fit them) which would be difficult to acquire abroad, alternator,startermotor,clutch slave cylinder,fan belt, water pump, hose repair kit, bulbs,fuses etc etc ... basically anything you can fit and fix yourself,or get your breakdown man to do.(Be warned most European breakdown cover is limited to 30 days !) I carry a kit to make brake and clutch pipes too,it weighs next to nowt and you never know ... !

I did 2000 miles around Northern Europe just last month.
Used 3 litres of oil (damn push rod tubes) 101 gallons of petrol (next van will be LPG'd) and its a 2.0L Aircooled Westy.
Loved it!

Lots of great advice thankyou. I reckon we'll avoid autoroutes altogether. We're not in a hurry and far to cheap to pay the tolls.

A doll your new T25 is, but why not a left-hooker? Esp since you'll be all-over the Europe in it. At the very least, fit some LHD headlamps so you don't drive about with silly headlamp-stickers.

Because I've had my license a grand total of 2 months and jumping in to a LHD van is a surefire way for me to crash it
