Found this in a manual. I assume this test is on a warm engine with the flap fully open?

I took the air intake off when the engine was warm and pushed down the flap. It went all the way down and made a "parp" sound which I assume means the pull-down unit isn't working due to a tear in the diaphragm?

You mention a restrictor in the pipe running from the pulldown unit to the car but there's nothing inside my pipe. Not that I can see anyway. And Etos lists the pipe as a generic 3.5mm hose with an N number with no mention of a restrictor

Could it be the restrictor was stuck on the unit and I just pulled the pipe off that? As it seemed hard to pull off initially

I know I am not Kev, but just popped in to say that on mine (and I think this is what Kev meant, he will be along soon to say) the restriction is built into the metal stub pipe that protrudes the the carb's base. (Or I should say, it is like that on my spare carb). The left hand one (as you are looking at the pipes) has a much smaller internal diameter than the other.

Ah yes, I was still blithering on about the two stubs at the base of the carb (I mention this for "clarity" in case of future "lookers" at this thread).

Looking at itchys pic I think (I hope) my restrictor is stuck on the pull down unit inlet when I removed the pipe

Would I be right in assuming a new unit comes with a restrictor? I ask because ETOS doesn't list a part number for the restrictor

I have a piece of pipe you can have, I'll dig it out
the restrictor stops the flap from snapping open, it smooths the action preventing hesitation due to a weak mixture during warm up

As I suspected the restrictor is part of the unit and is supposed to be pushed into the inlet port on the pulldown unit. Mine was and you can see it on the images of a vag pulldown unit

on the heritage website (the gold end on the inlet)

Possibly you have thought it was supposed to be inside the pipe because it has become detached from the unit in the past
