A good reason to ensure that the meter has it's own dedicated live feed from the battery of course

an hour lie in, some of us working lot get up earlier in the week, 6am for me, by 7am on a saturday I'm awake even if i dont want to be

Thank you for your generous interpretation of what I wrote

All I meant was that when I was looking for a feed for my voltmeter some of the places I poked my multimeter probe into didn't show the same as the reading at the battery. Ghost's point is useful though - provided you can find a feed that represents battery voltage, the meter ought to measure that regardless of the thickness of that wire.

Dedicated live feed from both batteries. Decent gauge wire. I'll nip down later and play around to try and get it working!

Fused i hope
wired mine into a box with a lead and a ciggy lighter plug on the end for now, too busy to do it permanently at the moment, dont really want to cut a panel either so not decided where to put it.

Ha, that's exactly what I have done to mine ! I have a 2 way (+usb)) socket connected directly to my leisure battery so I use that. Could also of course plug it into the main ciggy plug, but never felt the need to monitor that.
