The blower motor wiring routing and where the heatshrink was located meant there was a bit of interference, moved the heatshrink down and it's better now - runs on 5v (all I could find!), but still no joy from heater.

I definitely think it's locked out now. Might see if I can get a lend of a timer / diagnostics unit from someone...

That 5v may well be too low - the ecu will think that the motor is fubarred so won't start as it senses the fan speed.
There should be an error shown via the flashes as you say - but it seems that is only if it is an overheat fault on this model.

You happen to have bought the one model that does this total lockout! Thankfully it is not done any more - there have been so many complaints about this 'feature' .

Have you got a copy of the troubleshooting manual?



The part no. for the timer should be irrelevant I have ones with totally different end digits but they all commence with 22 1000 and work exactly the same.

I powered the fan on 5v, not the eber!

Am only using 12v from the battery/running vehicle to power the eber as a whole

Yeah, I've read about this total lockout "feature" on this model, and mine's a 98... Either overheats or too many unsuccessful starts will cause it - the latter might now be a problem (although I have read that it is only when it gets as far as firing the glowpins, fan etc that is classified as a start)

I have the manual, just nothing to read the fault codes with. Am trying to get someone in Dublin to lend me a timer with diagnostics, haven't found one yet...And really don't want to take the risk of buying one if it's possibly fubarred!

I trust you have checked the glow plug ?
The dl1c will not function at all if the glow plug is either disconnected or failed.

I read that as there was 5v at the fan as you said that you had got the fan turning!

Glow plug resistance seems ok (0.5 - 0.6 ohms), I haven't applied any voltage to it as I've heard it's 8V (but could try to get an 8V or apply 5V)

And yes, got the fan turning on 5v (although it was obstructed at first)

Voltage should be marked on the glowplug. No need to test with that resistance.

I think I'm going to have to get someone to check out the ECU, or at least borrow a timer with diagnostics (still haven't managed to find one), am totally stumped...
