I would be very surprised if you let anyone within a mile of the Golden Lady with a grinder in their hand!! But, as always, you only need to ask.

Rustoleum has been ordered and should be here by Tuesday so I might get first coat on next week. Just going to do the sides to start with and try polishing up the front and rear and if they look ok I'll leave them. If not it's not a problem to do them seperately.
I sprayed around the window aperture with an acrylic aerosol yesterday. I'm going to put the windows back in today (more for security than anything else) but I don't have the lacing tool for putting the seal insert back in. Anyone know if I can get the seal back in with the insert already in?

And still no holes found. Lucky me. Just the one rear window aperture to do, that one looks to be the worst as far as rust bubbling goes so maybe I'll find a few holes, or maybe not



I am very surprised how the door looks once the window's out. It looks like A/S got fed up after they cut the hole and just shoved the seal in.

Well, the last window aperture did need a small patch. I derusted it and rust treated , primed and painted just the lip where the seal fits. All windows back in now AND the infill strips. Thanks to Dazco for the loan of his FITTING tool. (Just in case Bobster see's this thread) And the good news is: My paint just arrived

Managed to get the first coat on today. Quite pleased with it


Obviously a long way to go yet but if it all comes out as good as the following pic (sort of) I'll be well pleased.

The sills will be treated and some stonechip, or similar, applied. The stripes will be polished up and resprayed with the correct colour. I might even do the roof as well.

Sprayed the door handles with satin black. Looking good. Also sprayed the flap for the EHU and the water tank filler surround in white. I did a few more bits with Rustoleum. Now a confession:
I cleaned things up last night using white spirit in a container exactly the same as the one I use for mixing. In my rush to clean myself up I left this container full, on the work bench. I mixed more paint today and I poured this into the roller tray, only it wasnt the paint mix, it was the white spirit I'd cleaned up with (I thought it looked a bit watery). I started to roller the wheel arch The gravel on my drive is a nice shade of white now!!!

Great link Mark, thank you. Just got to measure up and order. No great rush 'cos it's all going to be my winter project.

Did you use any form of rust treatment prior to paint?
I have a few areas that need attention. Is Rustoleum just for the top coat/primer?

Hi Steve. I used Loctite Rust Remedy, though I know some folk swear by Vactan. In my experience if you use Loctite properly, and remove all the crud, it slows the rust return down as good as anything.
Rustoleum is well covered in the 'Paint your van = with a roller!' thread but briefly yes, it's the top coat, and you need to give it several coats. It has its own rust inhibitor too. I prepared my van as if I were spraying with 'ordinary' paint, incl primer etc. It generally doesnt really matter what you use as a primer as far as the Rustoleum goes 'cos it won't react as it's oil based. It doesn't like damp/wet though. Have a good read of the thread and, if you feel the need, buy the video.
