Update for today as i have now downed tools. Found the oil switch wire in engine bay and connected it up.( also found an oil leak 
) Found that on an early fusebox van the wires for the headlight upgrade are white and yellow/black (not yellow as everything i seemed to read suggested). Jobs for next time check ground to dash and finish headlight upgrade and hope a wee fairy fixes the mad dash issues
