If you are going to change the front bearings now is the time to fit longer wheel studs if you think you may go that way in the near future. I'd replace the outer seal on the driveshaft too whilst you're in there. 3 seals on total.

Thanks Lee,
sadly didn't see this piece of advice....
Got the driver side bearing done. Its good to go again.
BUT>> apparently the new bearing went in easier than expected....and while there is now NO PLAY at the wheel, the mechanic has advised that I keep an eye out for a new hub that side, as the one that is on there may be a little worn.
Thanks for all the help folks,
Em

If that is the case bearing fit will sort it...effectively glues the bearing in..very strongly!

Yes, any ideas about the best / most suitable substance? Ive got Loctite 270 but not sure if strong enough?

Any of the loctite products should do...it is extremely strong..and as the bearing is a large area it will stick like mad! Your biggest concern is getting it in quick so it doesn't get stuck halfway.
E D I T...are you talking syncro hub or 2wd? Very different setup but even so loctite should save the day...however as 2wd hub is in fact the disc I would be looking of a new one..if its the spindle that is worn loctite won't cure the issue as you will lose adjustability of the bearing.

Loctite 270 seems to have stuck bearing retainer into hub. I thought that the hub and disk were seperate items that can be seperated?

On a syncro yes, but on 2wd no...unless it extremely early..like a prototype or something..not sure the 2wd was ever produced with a separate disc and hub...you tell me however..you done it!

Unless its a syncro the disc is all one with the hub, has taper bearings, and needs adjusting up...greasy too...I reckon you wold remember knocking bearings in and out.?
