I did too 8)

They are worth a pretty penny these days too, if they are in full working order. Folk want them for restored E-Types etc.

Very nice! As others have said def keep those front seats. And if the interior is in a good way don't go ripping out what isn't broke. In the long run keeping the van as original as possible will help it hold / increase it's value further down the line. Nice find.

Hello and welcome to the madhouse! :ok

You have a very good looking van there and it looks a real bargain. Get out and enjoy some camping with it now. I would definitely keep the original seats and the (possibly) original radio too.

(I bought a very old car radio once and when I switched it on to hear the news, the announcer said "This is the BBC Home Service from London. Here is the news with Alvar Lidell reading it")

Thanks for the interest guys, how exciting!!

Just spent the day stripping out the old carpet and looking for damp spots around the water pump, i'll upload pictures tomorrow when i can,
Unfortunately the sideways pop top roof is a bit disheveled and the hinges have broken due to rust. if anyone has a new roof canvas - let me know!

The campers being taken into the local garage to get the spots of rust treated and to have the roof fixed.

Still haven't thought of a name for him, maybe i should wait until hes totally refurbished and it will come to me!

What a shame!

Hi guys,

had a crazy weekend, seems like alot has happened, still managed to get a lot of work done on the camper!

Heres the update so far

First thing, try and save my dad some labour charge and get the broken roof off, and give it a clean while im at it -

Image

Finally it fits in the garage! shame it wont fit with the roof on - we're going to have to find a way around that.

Image

Next up to strip everything out that im not happy with, the cupboards, sink, cooker and fridge all had to come out, they were made of a horrible chip board that had absorbed alot of moisture and warped and bent in many places. luckily we have some wood lying around of the same style so it shouldn't be hard to fabricate a new set of cupboards.

The old carpet HAD to come out, it was almost rotten and full of sand from many trips to the seaside. im going to replace it with either a new neutral coloured carpet or a wooden panel floor.

Unfortunatly the bed frame bolts appear to have rusted through the floor and im unable to get that out, so im just having to work around it!

The old cupboard, fridge, sink and cooker unit.

I think that's their price for a Devon canvas. The Viking canvas is a bit bigger and a bit more complex, and I think their price for a Viking canvas will be a bit higher as a consequence.

You can also look at http://www.kingswoodcanvas.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - another forum member had one made by them, and I'm in the process of checking details before placing an order.

I'm replacing my original Viking canvas purely to incorporate some modifications to help with condensation. My original canvas is in really good shape though, and provided I'm satisfied with the fit and function of the replacement I may well sell my original canvas on. How much of a hurry are you in?

Are your original door and drawer fronts in good shape? I might be interested. Did they get damaged during removal? What about the wardrobe? I've been thinking of replacing the whole interior too, but if your doors are reasonable I could live with the existing carcasses. So please look after them a bit before you toss them.

E D I T: Oh, and is that the fridge trim piece I see on top of the kitchen unit in that photo? Is that in good shape?

Thanks - in case you missed my updated post - is that the fridge trim piece on top of the kitchen unit? Is that in good shape? And what about the wardrobe doors?

Can I ask you to take some nice clear photos - perhaps one for each door front, and maybe some edges?
