If you're going to upgrade with the fuel system (and it ain't the DJ's biggest issue), then why not just modernise the injection with megasquirt or the like, rather than taking the retrograde step of old-tech carbs?
I _like_ injection. It's simple. It works. It's easy to diagnose. It's efficient. It's flexible.
One thing's for sure, putting big carbs on isn't going to improve economy one iota...

He might know a bit about engines, but personally I'd go to Marco Mansi

I emailed him about a week ago, and again a couple of days ago but so far no response... I've also tried Laurie Pettitt with the same result.
I'm currently looking at The Engine Shop's 'big bore' 2.2.. (

really ?
A friend of mine has been trying to contact him for 18 months now after L.P. 'reconditioned' his engine

There were certainly superchargers fitted to type 1 engines so see no reason why it couldn't be done on a WBX. The big issue is probably limited room to fit one.

Ring him. I rang him a couple of years back when I needed a recon engine. He was very busy and couldn't fit me in for about 2 months so I went elsewhere.

Back in 1983 VW made a RWD polo estate with a supercharged WBX in the back.
http://translate.google.com/translate?s ... nt&act=url
They used a 1.9WBX with a prototype G lader supercharger (as later used in the polo G40 and golf G60), fuel injection and an intercooler and it made 155BHP.

Hello chaps! Yes all the superboxer parts are nesting in a crate, I had been waiting an age to get hold of an a/c compressor bracket and that only came good the other week, so now all the ancilliary stuff is sorted I can contemplate doing a mockup and commit to working out the blower mounting, inlet plumbing and whether to go chargecooled... the compressor i have got will move enough air for about 240 bhp @ just under 6000rpm before reaching it's 18k max. design rpm IIRC
PS when supercharging any engine the first thing to go in the bin is the OEM pistons as they are too brittle and thin for starters, so the comp.ratio is kind of irrelevant. I favour the 1.9 as the crank is stiffer, with more overlap between the journals than the 2.1

Hello...
Slightly off thread..
But..
What about the 'Oxyboxer' ......

(drool Icon)
"This is a Waterboxer case converting it to air-cooled (oxyboxer, type5), in all main bearing combinations, 94mm to 101.6mm cylinder combinations , with t1 stud spacing, or waterboxer(autocraft, 4in) stud spacing. Bushed T1 lifter bores, These are the strongest cases VW made, with superior aluminum and strength over the poor quality t1 aluminum sand cast cases.
Cases are made for your combination of crank and cylinders.
from £850"
At that price.. for his short engine.. plus a single point injection system..
Could be good from power and consumption POV
Have we looked at cams (silverbullet)..
Dont forget its really only a CT engine....Shh
Cordialement,

I look forward to seeing the conversion take shape. Keep us up to date with it, won't you?
