Cheers Mike. Will see how I feel in the morning.
Trouble is I have taken so much time and effort doing this van that I would kick myself knowing I did a half arsed job. Tradesman coming back out of me i'm afraid. This is why the van has taken so long but in the end I will know it's right. I will have a good look tomorrow and take pics of what I do.
I think I may not put back exact but try to make a bit of a mod to stop it happening again. I think it is due to water coming down the vent then in through this perfect little funnel to pool either on the battery tray or in the end of the cross member.

Well decided to fix it properly

really wish sometimes I could just be happy to bodge!! Started with the rear light surround as this was also rotten
Scratched my head for a while thinking how to make this then found that the offcut from the new sliding door runner panel was perfect for the swage
Will leave this out till last tho as I needs as good as access as I can get. Trial fitted the new "funnel"

piece before I cleaned it all up and welded it in.
After a lot of cutting, making and welding we get to this.
I am really happy with this now it all new or cleaned up metal, very solid and will hopefully last for a few years.
Just goes to show you need to "bite the bullet" sometimes and just get on with what you know needs doing. Found the same doing my house up, f**ked about trying to save bits of wall or plaster work and in the end just cut it all back to good brickwork etc and rebuilt...............soooooooooooooo much easier in the end.
Anyway after this I deserved these
Only the wing to weld on now

time lag here

you could have left the top half of the new panal longer so the small swage carried along to the end on the left. it may have made an easier repair which is why i make them longer also if you were to fold a 90' on the rear and get it wrong you have ennough length to have 4 or 5 goes
