That'll explain pushing fuel into the crankcase!

I have never used a Webber on a T25 but I cannot see how fuel can end up in the crankcase via the carb ? (usually a duff fuel pump causes this symptom)

New fuel pump already fitted.
I think it's sucking in that much fuel via the return pipe it's filling the cylinders and pushing it past the valves/rings. This is why it wasn't running on the cylinders full of fuel.
Pop rocker covers off after running it with the return pipe connected - and it runs only on 2 at best - and petrol pours out.
Disconnect return hose and it runs nigh on perfect.

Souther carbs confirmed it can't be a fuel return pipe.
Previous owner however had run it like this for the last 18mths though before it started playing up:?:
