Lee the bus has had 5 mot's since i bought it all at different garages. The trailing arms didn't show any signs of rust.
I will try and post some photos at the weekend.
Still looking for replacements.

Why would the mot man warn of rust if the arms weren't showing signs of any....?

I know what your saying...but wotsit does state is the rust wasn't visible...maybe the arms were like eggshells..due to rust inside...lack of wax protection from new or replacements that were not waxed.

So now we know SyncroPatrick had a similar breakage in France. Once the other arm had been attacked heavily with a wire brush, similar porosity was found near to the outer pickup forks.
We guess that wet muck gets thrown up there early on in life and never fully dries out, plus maybe never treated when first delivered.
It was also suggested that the bush hardens and stiffens or seizes on its outer diameter and thus the arm next to fork undergoes a significant bending moment that causes stress corrosion and speeds final failure.
NB. This was a 16" Syncro, and a show stopper until a skilled Frenchman patched it beautifully in a farmyard, over best part of a day... :OK
