all the engine bays are exactly the same and provided all the correct tinware is fitted with the 2litre Aircooled there won't be a problem.
i dunno what billy's on about with his driveshafts and gearbox mounts waffle, driveshafts are all exactly the same apart from on automatics and while i've never actually put an Aircooled in a watervan i have put a late 5 speed gearbox in an Aircooled 2 litre bus and everything worked just fine. yes i did need the complete 5 speed linkage and gearstick and yes the rear support bar didn't line up with the chassis bolt holes but that's easily remedied.
as for wiring, it's as steve said ,nae bother at all.
but a GOOD 2 litre complete with ALL the ancilieries and tinwear might not be so easy to get a hold of cheap.
