Yes I think perhaps the relief valve should be checked for non seizure/operation... out of caution.
On the plus side you have exellent oil pressure

I don't think you can point fingers at elite for this.. It is extremely rare event

Thanks,
I've ordered the part from Vw heritage and am off work on Thursday & Friday so will attempt to fix it with my very limited knowledge. How do I check the pressure release?

You don't need to drop/lower the engine. Silencer off, silencer heat shield off (tie the header tank up so it doesn't strain the hoses ... this way it doesn't require even emptying) engine supported where it is on a trolley jack with a piece of wood and drop the engine mounting bar off. You should just be able to tap this core plug into place where it is.
Over pressure/over filled the oil should either blow out of the pressure relief valve OR will blow up the crank breather and burn through the carb. It sounds more as if it wasn't fitted correctly in the first place ... when I've replaced waterjacket core plugs on F 0rds I've used Red Hermetite as a sealant not sure this is approved practice here but it worked on Sierras

Thanks for all your help & information. New core plug ordered from Vw heritage.
I spoke to elite again today whom informed me that I wouldn't be able to buy this core plug as they are rare!!!!!!!
Not so rare that a two minute phone call sorted it and one is winging its way in the post.
The correct part number supplied by Kev helped loads with that though.

No idea Micky. I heard a trick of putting it in the freezer the night before. Any advice would be appreciated.

As you can see I had to remove the whole exhaust because the heat shield was seized to the engine mount.
This is turning into a much bigger job than I anticipated.
I hope to try and get it finished tomorrow.
