This might be a silly question, but if you change from stock 14 inch wheels to 15 inch with 215/75/15 tyres, then how much taller will the vehicle be? It's already a close shave in some town centre car parks (where you really need those MT tyres).

He did say 'stock 14" wheels' which run 185R 14 tyres. The 205R 14 tyres were an option !!

Very few people do 205 R14 which your van takes (I think). Maxxis do quite a few different types in that size to name but a few. Get yourself an M&S style. There is a lot of bunk talked about tyres here and your choice of tyre will have less effect than your driving style when the going gets slippy

i'd also like to know that.
And the 15" wheels are we talking about steels from another VW? on a stock syncro, can you run 15's with the 205 at tyres without clearance issues?

Tyres are a personal thing. Some like A/T's, some like M/T's and some like M&S tyres. It all depends on what you want to do and where you want to go. The more agressive the tyre, the more adverse effect it will have on transmission components.
Most people fit a 15" wheel made by Mefro and its a trailer wheel which takes a 215/75/15 tyre quite nicely. Mercedes do a few wheels that will fit as well.
Which 205 tyres are you talking about?

i am going to sound like a real wet behind the ears type now but basically i like the look of a chunky looking off road type tyre. I have no idea if they are mud & snows? or what? The syncro isn't a daily just for fun and a bit of off road action. & my syncro doesn't have diff locks.
