I was told that the M6 toll measures the vehicle height at the front wheels - so blunt nosed vehicles (T25 and many people carriers) are priced as lorries while 4WD are cars. I was also told not to use the automatic booths are you may get through cheaper with a person.
Not that I have ever used it.

I always book my T25 as a normal car. Past few years I have used speed ferries no problems went in my Syncro Doka in May no problems.
Just come back from France went on Speed Ferries on the way out they were measuring a lot of cars. They were making people take the top boxes of there cars before they allowed them on. I had to take my Just kampers little truck of the roof. My lowered Reimo camper measures about 1.9m. On the way back I left the little truck on the roof.
I used to go with P+O always booked as Golf

On the Dartford crossing I paid £1 for my Camper and about £1.90 for my DOKA I argued didn't get me any where.
French Motorways get charged car rate camper and Doka

Dubstar, glad you picked that up re m6 toll. I'm a regular on that and vet occasionally it gives me a 3.50 ticket instead of the £7 one. I think if you stop a little short of the pay auto pay desk it mis measures you. I'm engaged in a long term experiment to test this! Probaby wishful thinking

Whereabouts is the paybooth located, travelling South from Carlisle to Penrith please?
Do they charge extra for towing a caravan?

Tex no booth between carlisle and penrith, toll is just a short section round brum, starts at 11a and rejoins original m6 between 5 and 6 I think, booth is halfway along it roughly if you're usgin full length of it, other booths on exit slips.

Dubstar wrote:Yeah, I got fleeced on the M6 toll and had to pay the £7 a van pays, and not the £3.50 that all the Range Rovers and people carriers were paying. And it's a Westy Pop Top camper.I'm not tight,it's just the principle of it.One road I won't be using again.
Nor me! Been going through as a car since it opened, last weekend the She Hitler decided I was to be classed the same as a 50 seater coach/van.

Does anyone feel up to writing to the administration of the various toll companies and getting some clarification once and for all on this issue?

Dartford crossing---if its got windows & seats or camper interior--its a car--if its any sort of a commercial vehicle--doka, panel etc its ridgid truck---no argument--ever--they wont budge--
