So,
I had a crack at this, dash out and pulled the whole thing to bits, managed to do it without taking the hoses off.
Cleaned alot of "pooh" out of the core and it was in pretty good condition so replaced the foam mounting strips, made some new flaps.
Heater blower was working fine, not much need for it in summer but taking some advice about berrings while it was out i drilled the hole on the end and dripped some oil in. Put it back together and was very impressed with the result. The heater heats up fast and more importaintly the heater has stopped blowing boiling hot air at my feet when turned off...brilliant!
Bad thing is that now that winter is here, every time i flick on the blower to clear the window before setting off the fuse blows after 10 or 20 seconds. Any ideas where that fault could be? Ideally interested in thoughts that dont involve removing the whole lot again!
Once the van is moving it defrosts quickly but you all know the obvious issue with this!
