So,

I had a crack at this, dash out and pulled the whole thing to bits, managed to do it without taking the hoses off.

Cleaned alot of "pooh" out of the core and it was in pretty good condition so replaced the foam mounting strips, made some new flaps.
Heater blower was working fine, not much need for it in summer but taking some advice about berrings while it was out i drilled the hole on the end and dripped some oil in. Put it back together and was very impressed with the result. The heater heats up fast and more importaintly the heater has stopped blowing boiling hot air at my feet when turned off...brilliant!

Bad thing is that now that winter is here, every time i flick on the blower to clear the window before setting off the fuse blows after 10 or 20 seconds. Any ideas where that fault could be? Ideally interested in thoughts that dont involve removing the whole lot again!

Once the van is moving it defrosts quickly but you all know the obvious issue with this!

Is it possible you have nipped a wire when you put it all back together or could something have fallen across the terminal block. Do you have a multimeter you could use to check for a short to earth.

Trouble is, even if you identify the full power feed wire to the blower (goes direct to the motor, NOT via the resistor) and put a meter on it, it will read pretty much like a direct short (as motors do).

When you switch it on, just before the fuse blows, can you hear ANY noise from the motor ? I suspect that summat is jamming the fan

If it was me, I would get another battery and earth it, then connect a heavy wire with a 30 amp fuse in line, to the main feed wire to the motor. I would, using my fingers, manually jump power to the motor and see / listen / to what happens. I would take great care, monitoring how much current is flowing (by looking, listening, and using my years of experience with electrics ). If there is a "real" short circuit, it will be fairly obvious. If the motor is suspect / seized / jammed / then I would expect to hear something from it.
DISCLAIMER = This "technique" may be considered a bit hazardous if not done very carefully and by someone with experience of 12 volt circuits !

Hope you don't have to strip it all out again but I bet you do At least you know how to do it now, so it will take 1/2 the time

The motor seems to run as normal.... and I guess with these things the worst of winter will be over soon there is more summer related issues and ill leave it for next year! The good news is that my heater is working well, the temp guage is working again and im not going to be blasting my bloody feet and sweating like a rapist this summer
