Lloyd, not bothered about hijacking
You're actually helping me at the same time
What's the advantage of the pd manifold?
Are you using the Map tube because it has a bead to seal the hoses properly?

The main reason people fit the pd manifold is for air flow as it has a better inlet. On a standard engine I don't think you'll notice any difference. The reason I'm fitting it is that it lends itself to having that map pipe welded to it which has a good bead and it also means the pipework from chargecooler to inlet will stay 57mm, and not shrink down to fit that cut up map pipe and the smaller afn manifold. It will also mean the egr comes off I'll have to leave the n75 plugged and just cap the vacuum hoses.

i think you can guess

there will be no bead, i have the complete pipe on the 'other' engine, no way of getting a bead on it. Reckon when i take it off to fit the other pipe/manifold it will have just been sawn through

Sawn? Give over...who would do such a thing? It would never last and is very poor engineering.

I'll be starting on it next week, so ill post a picture or two as usual.... I'm sure it will raise a smile. When I first saw it, to be fair I kinda thought what else could have been done. Now it's leaking oil it made me look for an alternative. About a 2min google search turned up that pipe. I know these conversions are done to a budget so corners will always be cut. But sometimes a phone call to say "I could do this but it is going to cost X amount more" instead of just cobbling bits together which cause issues at a later date.

Ray, thought I'd update.
New turbo, vacuum hoses and boost pipes, with no leaks. So all in pretty tip top shape.
Max sustained boost on a good long motorway hill with cruise control keeping it to 60mph = 13.7psi
It will peak for a few seconds at anything up to 18psi
3rd gear full throttle steep hill climb = 14.2 psi which it held until the gradient levelled out (about 20 secs)
On full throttle in 3rd, starting at 1200rpm max boost comes in at around 1800-2000rpm
I've had a search for standard boost pressures for a AFN and it is under 14psi with peaks upto 4 psi higher. Over 20psi is meant to trigger a over boost limp mode.
Hope that helps

Cheers for that Lloyd.
Just done another 550 mile round trip to North Wales. Readings are pretty much the same as mine, thanks for putting my mind at rest. Must have a look at doing some soundproofing though, it gets quite noisy at 70+
Still can't get over the power delivery:-0
