Well guys i changed the regulator pack and now i seem to have 14v and i have also put in an auto sensing relay and it seems to work also other than it is on all the time
there is a pot inside does that change the activating voltage?? relay TEC3M

You will find that it will (should) drop out as the main battery drops below the set point. The voltage that it is sensing will be higher immediately after charging so will hold the relay open for a while. Leave it four or five hours and it should have dropped the connection again.

I have just fitted a brand new battery and whilst on a drive today I was getting about 13.8v (I have a wee meter in the dash)

I am sure it was better than before, but should it be better? should i try to get a new voltage regulator? Will this be detrimental to the battery through time or does it just mean the battery charges slower?

(sorry for the hijack) :run

Certain makes of 'Smart' relays do have adjustment to fine tune the switching voltage...

@pi Quattro I was getting 13.5 ish with the engine running and after changing the regulator
pack I have a steady 13.9-14 volts as far as charging the battery is concerned your alternator has a rating
Wether it be 45 65 or 95 amp it the battery is dead or you have the lights on fans any thing that takes more power the alternator will produce a higher amps you will notice this by the engine tone change as the alternator produces more power it requires more horsepower to turn it so I would change the regulator it's much cheaper than buying a new alternator does anyone have any ideas on hoe to oil the bearings on them!!
