Hey Paul,

Lovely colour! I'll have to look up your resto thread next. I'm having a great time reading kevtherev's & xriss's :)

Go ahead & let your neighbours think you're mental! They've probably just got a massive case of bus envy. I'll be doing the same! And like another thread on the forum, I'm pretty sure when I start my City & Guilds course next month, I'll be using Chezzy as an office! :)

well your quick
there will be more-ish..
anyhow back to things, a bit more expense for ME, my welding hat broke after many years so a new auto hat ordered, dont use it that much on vans, i prefere the hand held inspection shield as it dont get in the way..
removed the bulk of the what was a fairly inoccuose looking frontpanal
Image
want a better look
Image
this is the centre bit some of which i will be keeping
Image
this was ready to burst through come what may
Image
this bit of arch will hopefully come good once its cleaned up and the damage removed
Image
have to admit, the vw sealnat does work well but,,,, once a way in occurs then the rust just creeps
Image
sealant scaped of, looks better already and after blasting it will be a pleasure to repair, and be as good as new , its one of those cases where a repair like this is preferable to the pattern part
Image
osr arch , sealant removed and its very good back here, so I have marked the spots ready for setting too with the new bit
Image
bu**er its sharp
Image
not to worry,
Image
the rust is between the external seam and the interior side, there is no protecftion to the metal from new so inherant moisture during manufacture just festers away, this is then aided in some areas where its exposed to air
this is the rest of the arch with it opened up , will be able to blast in here and also nice fit for the new arch
Image
these 2 are just for the record, osr lower panal, nice..............

wot you drinking
on the 3rd from last picky you can see an area of paint that hasnt adhered, this is as bad as prep ngets, it dont cost money to do the labouriose prep work , dont matter if its rollered or sprayed, if you dont prep it , it will look and be carp..

Well, setting to with the osr wing first and working round the van, discovery time , well no supprise really
osr 1/4 seen from in the engine bay, looks like its had a jack under at some time maybe lift bar on the ramp?,right bulge
Image
anyhow there is the usual rust out so cut cutting we go this is from the outside
Image
could leave it and clag the new bit over but .......................no never so on with undoing it
Image
you can see where the sealant has held, the rust/rot hole is where they always go , right on the seam
anyhow im unpicking the welds and will replicate the original as near as i can
Image
now its gone and the rotten bit at the front removed
Image
its back... well this is the item , i shall use it as a template as i chucked the last one by mistake, might make a few up while im at it as i have a few to do :rofl
Image
first pass over with the blaster
Image
i will treat this as overnight it will rust again, then redo prior to weld thru etc
