Judging by the rust I doubt that it had any.
So was galvanising across the board or just on certain later models ? IIRC Audi introduced it in the late 80s and overnight cars stopped rusting.

Err yeah thanks Simon, Sorry I am new to Syncros, T25s and VWs generally. I know it is all old hat to you and you must be bored of numpties asking the same old questions again and again. But your cryptic answers really don't help me learn any more. Sorry if If I don't fit the clique of Syncro owners that know what you are referring to.

Apologies Slobbo for sidetracking your thread. Your bus looks great.

Cheers
Rich

Don't worry, me being a Mong again.
Rushing and not checking the post I did before wandering off somewhere else...
All T3s were galvanised to a certain extent, page 24 of that link above shows the areas that are galvanised.
Galvanising is a covering over the base metal, stops it corroding, however if you rub through it when prepping for bodywork you ruin the anti corrosion covering rendering the Galv useless.
Slobbos van is a little unusual in the fact it was completely galv'd rather than selected areas as shown on page 24.

Loving the job. I was thinking of painting mine. Although in bumblebee fashion :)

Thanks Simon - Makes a lot more sense now. sorry to go off on one, been a hectic time, trying to get my van back together in time to run a Bushcraft course for the Scouts at the weekend. Its been alot of work all on the drive before the rain starts again.
So I guess my Galv will be long gone :(
As you say slobbo, I was very dubious of all the thick black paint up the side of my van. Couldn't paint over it, couldn't get it off, so ended up sanding right through it, that left a nasty uneven surface, so took it right back to get it flat. Paint didn't really cover any nasty horrors, a large shallow dent and a rippley sill. I think the sill has been replaced very badly ?

Cheers
