li/sw is violet/black.

I thought you were after the wire that goes to ground, i.e the brown (br) to earth point 12; Page 12.30 in the Haynes manual? The wire from componant 'G', fuel sender?
The li/sw is from the gauge to connector block 'B' number 3 from the fuel guage, or from E5 to the other side of the sender.

Ah yes, just noticed you have an air cooled so your Haynes is going to be different to mine.

I'd just run a temp earth to the sender and see if that sorts it or not, then you know

I did initially suspect the sender anyway, I suppoose theres no getting away from it, the tank needs dropping

shone the lamp there can certainly see the screw tip, but i just cant get my arm in enough to have a feel about even to grab a wire to cut it, maybe il fashion something from a coathanger

Update.... found the wire, countdt feel the connector but its deffo attached... whacked a load of wd40 in there to force a connection but no apparent joy, but then again the tank could be empty !!

Il stick 20 in her this weekend and see how it goes. Of to Dubs at the Mill this weekend, hopefully someone there can help out
