Think Ian means the bleeding description given on the Brickwerks site.

Have you checked the water pump is working as if it is not circulating properly then it will boil.

Yeah, water pump is pumping fine, decided the engines coming out and the heads off. Would be good to spend a bit of time making it as best as i can!

I would give it several goes at bleeding it before opening that can of worms.
Having said that I appreciate your thoughts ... been there, got sick of doing the engine Hokey Kokey ... swapping in, out, in out and shaking it all about .. I fitted a known-good recon so that we had a reliable van, that was 4 years ago this weekend and 60,000 miles later I've not regreted that decision for one second.

Ok, so engine is out and tonight stripped down (all head bolts were ok!!!!

) to find numerous problems - this engine was put together by a complete idiot! All head rings were leaking to water ways, bottom of liners were sealed in with silicone not the correct rings, number 1 cylinder had the top ring broken!!
I know i cant put all this down to whoever built it, but its not very good! Now starts the clean up and reassemble and hopefully a nice reliable engine!!!!
Is there only one size of piston rings? Brickwerks only list one set, no oversizes. Also, if a head were to crack, where do they tend to go?

result we all like to hear. I was going to tell you to go straight to head but didn't have the confidence. Exactly the same happened with mine.
Re: Cooling Problems sorted- now tapping noise!!

Right, so we've covered 200 miles without any overheating problems!

Went to it tonight to sort out the mixture as now its nice and new inside it's way out of tune and runs lumpy on idle. With all the covers off over the engine you can hear quite a loud tapping noise from somewhere in the engine and its only running on three cylinders.

A few check showed No 1 was not firing. Its ok when you pick up the revs. Seems like a tappet fault to me, but you would have thought it would have pumped up after 200 miles!!!! My question is, can i get the tappets out without disturbing the heads that i have just spent ages rebuilding!!
