Another superb wild spot on Berneray, just a mile or two from the ferry.

Wow - thanks everyone! I think I'm almost persuaded! Will maybe pm a few of you for more details once we've worked out a route etc.

Happy camping!

Just thinking - which is the best ferry route to take and the best ticket to get? There seem to be a selection of Hopscotch tickets but does anyone know if there is an Island hopper which gives you x number of ferry trips and you can please yourself as far as the route goes?

You should price them individualy as sometimes it works out a bit cheaper

The island rover ticket allows you unlimited travel to the islands for 8 or 15 days, we did hopscotch 13 from skye to ullapool, if doing it again i would do hopscotch 11,was well worth it :ok

Everyone who has been there that I know, have complained about the amount of midges/mosquitos...Any feedback/advice here?

Cheers
Andy

If you can't beat them....http://2010.midgeforecast.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I'm lucky they don't bother me. Some say mosquitos are he worst then they visit the west of Scotland in summer.

6 weeks til we leave for the outer hebrides. We've booked the hopscotch 23, starting at Oban. Does anyone know if there are kennel facilities anywhere as we want to do the day long trip to St kilda but unfortunately cannot take the dog so need someone for him to be taken care of while we are over there.

Remember though the day trips normally run from levburgh on Harris so you will need to catch the ferry from berneray back over to
Harris. Talk to seamus from Sea Harris they took amanda over.

St Kilda is incredibly remote and has an amazing amount of history. Get hold of some of the books about when island community and you will get a a real sense of the place. There is a similar small island just off the north mainland near tongue called Seal Island. The village there was abandoned in the 1930s but the houses still stand. Hard to get to though, need a good sea kayak or a friendly local with a boat. I'm really keen to wild camp there this year.

We are going to do both the St Kilda trip and The Shiants :ok with Sea Harris, apparently they will do a discount if we book both and after the stressful year hubby and I have had with all 3 of our 20 something sons having to move back home I've made an executive decision that we are doing both  Just have to hope the number for a possible dog sitter Seamus gave me works out as we need a safe place for Marley to wait for us or we wont be able to do either :(

Hi Mother.

Me and Alison are planning touring Scotland in the 6 week holidays. Starting by going up the East coast, along the top then back down the west coast for the lochs and the islands. So we should be in the same area the first couple of weeks in August if you and Bernie fancy meeting up for a few sherrys.
