I am over simplyfying the principles..

but the way I try to get my simple head round the gearbox stuff is relating it to riding a bike that has 3 sprockets on the pedal (engine = your legs ) side of things and what happens when you go up and down the sprockets on the rear wheel and how hard / easy it is on your muscles....

Doubt adain will thank me for this idiots guide to his profession and expect a +50% hike on the cost of a visit i am sure to make to him to install a recon box to suit my yet to be transplanted 1y

Had a productive evening in the interior dept and whan finished I will be uploading a guide to pimping your van for free as "cath kidstone/orla kylie" styleee

DOnt laugh or deride

SWMBO holds the purse strings to the budget to the engine transplant - and the dressing up of the interior is what she loves about the camper

Regards

Matt

Why are you going to change the box? Mine has the original box and I admit it doesn't give much more top speed but as you are no longer restricted by the slightest incline your journey time will be greatly reduced, why not try it for a while before you commit to the extra expense?

Hi Kit

I agree with you 100% and am am reserving judgement till I get the new engine in.... and try it out

having spoken to you and another who has done the same conversion you both seem v happy with the conversion without need to change the gearbox

Reason I mention the likelyhood of an upgraded box is that although mine is fine... I do have a 6th sense that it will fail at some point and when it does I willreplace it with what suits the 1y best as I use it.

I must admit to looking forwared to seeing what an undergeared 1y will do from standing to 50mph

Had thought about that. But got confused on whether bigger diameter wheels was good or bad. I mean gave a higher road speed against lower engine revs?????????
Without a tacho it is hard to hear whether we are over revving the engine badly, so we have'nt pushed past 55mph.
Cheers for info.
