sam seed. What white did you go for in the end? Sorry I missed your question the first time I read your post.

The colour is exactly what I wanted, looks white in sunlight but not too pure a white then when it dulls down a little bit it looks more grey.

ral 9003 signal white!!! paint is due now shortly. Oh mummy....dunno if i've picked the right colour i'm still in 3 diferent minds at the moment. However the van's preped. The paint's paid for. The DVD's been enjoyed. It's going on! This weekend it's gonna get it's first lick.

I have a garage to use so i'm thinking of taking out the windows (it's a caravelle) whilst i'm at it and getting a coat under the seals. Never actualy taken a window out before tho but, how hard can it be I'm painting the bumpers white too they're the plastic version hoping it matches up ok...?

Your van looks great tho Gary hoping mine turns out as well.

Fabio, you can get the DVD as link below. Cart calculates postage to anywhere in the world. Over time we hope to add more languages for subtitles but the DVD should show you everything, even with sound turned off

Ok, so the paint finally showed up today! raging, it should've been baking in the heat this week...ah well. Just went out like a kid with a new toy and had a go at painting an old microwave. glad I did too as I messed up the first side of it. Second side looked better tho It's very white, very very white however that's what I wanted so... I'll get some snaps up soon when I have something to show y'all other than a revamped 80's microwave.

Chickenkoop's is also very very white, but actually we rather like it

Sunglasses will be needed if painting white when the suns out. Don't want to lose you sight until christmas

Ok, so...I started painted the van yesterday had some problems initially however, a first coat is now on! Problems started for me straight away when I first put paint to the roof of the van - bubbles where everywhere! I mean hundreds of the buggers! OK, I thought this was mentioned on the forum I knew what to do and that it was only to do with the fact it was a new roller. They didn't disappear tho - I ran the roller (just using the weight of it) over the area however it seemed to create more bubbles. This hadn't happened on the microwave i'd practiced on I thought it must be the paint – perhaps I had it thinned too much - I altered the mix still no joy. Maybe I aint working quick enough I thought - help was drafted in in the shape of my lady friend however, things did not improve. Paint was blotchy and full of bubbles. I was close to despair when my roller got damaged on a window edge. I dully changed it however, I used one of the cheaper rollers I got out of homebase (10 for £8 or something like that) instead of the high density ones i'd bought fro my local paint store on friday. This made the world of difference...the paint was now going on bubble free and the job started to become enjoyable. Unfortunately, I'd covered about a third of the van using the "pooh" high-density rollers. Disgusted wasn't the word for it. Back to wet sanding again next weekend. Ho hum at least it's a start. No pics yet as it pissing it down here the vans locked in the garage. I haven't even had the heart to go out and look at it yet today.

sam-seed... go out and have a look, the bubbles will probably have died down as the paint 'levels' as it dries. I made the same mistake with my rollers, using BnQ's high density jumbo ones for my 1st coat. Went to the thinner and cheaper rollers for the rest with no problems. Don't get down-hearted, you'll get it right in the end. It is all about trial and error!

E D I T: Just went back to find it. Page 84 of this thread carries a pic of the rollers I used that were rubbish and the much better thin ones.

Make sure the surface is absolutely wax-free too. Even a trace will give you a hard time. You may also like to try the dry brush approach, using a wide dry brush shortly after rollering to lose any bubbles. Theres a link to that video in the wiki article.

Yes, stick to the small non-branded DIY store rollers - thats what we use. £1 shop trays and handles are fine for those too. Don't wet sand for at least three weeks buddy - it needs that long to harden off first, otherwise its like trying to peel a rubber apple.

Cheers guys! I had a look at it there about half n hour ago. The third of the van done with the "pooh" roller is still "pooh" the rest of the van looks decent some runs on the edges and a few mystery spots other than that it's fair first coat. Ye rekon it'll take that long(three weeks) between coats?

It's all down to temperature, if you can leave it sitting in the sun to bake then it wouldn't require that long. I did mine when it was 30 - 35 degC over here and left it sitting in the sun all day long. I still gave it a week between coats. Also remember when you wet sand down the 1st coat if it's anything like mine you'll remove a lot of the paint you've just put on to the point you think 'well that was a waste of time!' Doesn't happen with the next coats though!
