Stop asking me for my vans RAL number please

3 people have asked up to now and I don't want my van to be common as muck

great... got some more paint on this evening and it rained about an hour and half later

Just hope it hasn't messed up the coat as I've done most of one side!

Should be fine if it was over an hour later

Meeting another van in the same colour is like bumping into one of your friends wearing the same dress......erm erm I mean shirt. Ahem!!!!

Luckily the rest of the side is OK as it was shielded by the house...

Oh well at least we all know now what rained on new paint looks like

This is a preview of how it's coming on - 2 coats of cream and 2 coats of red. The last coat of red was put on last night and the cream was a week ago - neither are flatted/prepped for the next coat as yet but it's looking good and the red is reeeet shiney!

You may get away with the rain spots if you give it 4 weeks, use 1200 or finest wet and dry you can find then buff out. Looking grand!

Temperature is just perfect for rollering right now if you can dodge any rain.

First coat on today! Managed to dodge the rain - wondered what would happen if it did, glad I missed it!! Very happy! I'm doing the top half in white and below the sliding door rail in purple (suggestion by my better 'alf she said blue was boring..).
Anyway went on better than I thought, it's very forgiving as long you work the paint until it's ready to dry, took a little bit of getting used to but not that tricky. The hardest bit is getting too much paint on the panel, usually when you've just loaded the roller, remedied by starting another panel to get rid of the excess. So worth masking everything first, had a few moments quickly masking things I wasn't expecting whilst roller / other panel was drying... Very happy though can't wait to get the purple on now. BTW managed to do the whole of the top half of the van (only did around the edges of the roof) from noon till about 9.30pm, used about 1.5lt of paint and only one roller.
Door on right has been done, on left waiting to be done..

This is the Merc - for those wondering why it doesn't look remotely like a T25. Good job there Marc. I think we're as eager as you to see it finished. Wait till the neighbours see how you've transformed it - they all take the pee when you mention rollering but their faces soon change when they see how good it can look.

Just give it those four weeks to fully cure before messing with the finish in any way. Rustoleum surface dries in a day but will stay slightly soft underneath for about four weeks although you can paint extra laters a week after the first coat oddly enough - it just seems to get a bite on whats already there I find.

Once you get a feel for the paint, its fairly straightforward don't you agree?

I wanted to share the fruits of my labour with you all as finally after 3 months of stripping out, welding repairs, filling, rubbing down, painting and putting back together again, our lovely Beryl is now looking great and we can't wait to get some use out of her before the summer is out. I used Rustoleum Marlin Blue and have manged to put one coat on (covering the original white) and hope to do anther couple of coats in due course. The roof still needs to be done (in white) and the wheels need some attention but it's enough for the time being.

Neil - Looking good, it's surprising how good the first coat is.
Cov - Yep! Easier than I thought - in fact just like the DVD! (More area than the T25 though! )
Already had the neighbours cooing about the transformation. I keep saying "It's just the first coat!"

Love this thread. I've just bought a T3 (T25) and was planning to roller anyway but this thread has really clinched it. Problem is I can't find an online dealer in Germany. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
