what will happen if I dont ?
If you've weakened the mixture then the flame rate of the petrol /air burn will increase and in turn cause the engine to run hotter
If you've richened the mixture you'll be slowing the flame rate potentially over heating your exhaust valve because the fuel charge will still be burning as the exhaust valve opens
Will you be able to tell either of these things are happening? Probably not. How are you going to set the two screws back to where they were without a gas analyzer?

and Im being serious here not naive what should one do in this situation ? screw back in and then come out 2.5 turns
or
just leave it ?

yes it was stalling and now its not after turning both screws (but I dont want to cause damage)

Set the mixture screws back to 2 1/2 turns out and adjust the idle using the right screw. Take the van for a 15-20 minute run and take the adjustment tools with you. If you try adjusting the idle without getting the engine up to operating temperature first you won't get it set right anyway. See if you can borrow a tacho and set the idle to 800-850 RPM. Just setting it to stop the engine stalling means it's probably set too high anyway.

if its still wont go past 65mph flat out theres still something wrong with it ,

not tried it yet past 65mph didnt have enough motorway after the 50mph road works and then had to come off at junction...will do at the weekend

Im in hackney and have a multi meter with tacho. Timing light and ting if you need a borrow.

Have you checked to see if the throttle is opening fully when the throttle pedal is hard down? Mine was only opening half way. I adjusted the cable and it made a big difference.

thanks for the offer...I can manage to adjust screws and hope for the best with setting the mixtures but using the multi metre etc is all foreign to me !
not a million miles from you in enfield
timing has been set so at least that's fine !

I think the answer may be in your signature. Just take your bus to Elite and get another engine. I reckon it is just a slow, worn out, back firing piece of sh!t that is not woth wasting money on.
