Photo of the insulation and joint tape used below. Just the standard household type for back of rads?


For fixing Just replicated what Autohomes had done originally. Screwed down through plywood into floor through top of ribs. Every third rib in floor had line of screws. 5 rows by 5 screws total of 25.
Laid the insulation on top of lats you can see in previous photos and taped joints with silver tape. Then placed plywood on top of this.


Could not find any csk self tappers so ended up buying these from local DIY shop. Although these are wood screws worked fine. Drilled though plywood and floor of van with 2.5mm drill then just fitted screws with electric screwdriver.

Most pieces are sorted now but still have these left over. Any ideas anyone.


Pieces from top.
Top two items - sponge blocks approx 150x150 square. Think may be some type of insulation/packing for fridge?

Middle item - Similar material (MDF) to shelve in unit under cooker. But cannot work out anywhere for this to go?

Lower item - Piece of 5mm thick ply x 40mm x 280mm long. Two 1/2" screws at each end?


This one is a plastic trim. Looks if it fits to edge of something? Approx 250mm long.

It all ould just be general rubbish that came with van? Was given various other items which have binned like a tailgate/sill trim. Spent ages trying to work out were it went until found Nissan logo on back.

Trimming out this week ready to take to VolksPower.

Fitting misc pieces like internal window seals, front carpet, dash tray, fridge, work tops, sinks & hob etc.

No internal power yet as Mark still to complete reconnecting of wiring for leisure battery and fridge.


Dash top and front carpet fitted. Still need to get some overspray of glove box.


Fridge and work tops fitted. Removed old edging strips from worktops and fiited new (maple). Original was chocolate brown but could not find this anywhere so used maple which is a light colour but seems to work.


Rear seat and engine cover. Broke down the twin drawer unit over engine bay, reglued and screwed back together. You can now lift it out in one piece.

Van on delivery without windscreen and stripped out interior stacked inside.

Now going to pack up for VolksPower. Anyone else going please come over and have a look at van and see what you think?

Its the praise that makes it all worth while.

The show was great with lots of great motors. The Governor (as I have decided to name it due to the GV(H) plate) was a genuine DIY resto. Looking great and I know it's going to be well respected when it's finished. Massive well done Mark and Jeff.
However: It was such a friendly meet, considering the size of the event. It was all summed up for me by this little moment!

What a fantastic gesture by a very friendly guy. It really made my grandsons day, letting him sit in his pride and joy for the pic! Top marks to a really kind guy. (He even gave my grandson a couple of valve caps off his car).
This was my first VW show and it will NOT be my last. Big thanks to all of you 80-90 members who welcomed me and were a reassurance for Finley when he was worried about me

This weekend it was Mark's turn to pick up the van and drive it to Sunny Seaton to continue the work. Ok the van started up fine and drove well. Had a bit of bother pulling out sharp from a roundabout as the dogleg box is taking a bit of getting use to! Jeff mentioned it had a bit of a hot start issue so upon arriving home I decided to try and start up. Starter turned over very slow and van would not fire. So took of battery and put on charge, removed starter motor and found some dirty/dodgy connections



Cleaned these up and replaced connector block with thru crimp and some shrink sleeving. Then turned my attention to the gearbox earth, cleaned this up and replaced.



Note the freshly primed rear bumper along with the earth strap. So will give the van a run sometime and see if things improve. Other tasks so far this weekend was to rubdown and paint rear bumper. I found the paint was flaky as hell.



So I decided to bare metal it and after a few hours it looked like this....



It is now in primer waiting to be painted matt black (see image 2)

Last but not least fitted an old radio cassette for some tunes. Have a choice of a few aerials to fit but still cant make my mind up about the one to fit and where!

A couple more little jobs done over the weekend whilst dodging the rain! Managed to connect he fridge to 12v via relay and got a couple of wheels painted plus at last the rear bumper is matt black. will try and get some other odds n sods done before I return van during the week. Sorry no photo's as Photobucket is playing silly sods!

Time for an update. Not managed to get through much of the list but I guess something is better than nothing! Two of the wheels are painted and on the van, rear bumper painted but not the brackets, still waiting for the rivnut tool to arrive. Had a little run out tonight think the gear linkage needs a slight bit of adjustment as can be a tad awkward at times. The hot start issue is still there but will fettle that in time. A picture of garage mayhem at the weekend......
