My question now is whether my truck will be capable to do the 'scenic' route with only two wheel drive. I have diff locks and new mud terrains. Any thoughts?

You'll be fine i reckon, surprising how far you can get with 2wd and a difflock!

You'll probably be OK, we can always pull you out if you get stuck!

I'll be there.

I also have a spare seat.

I have my CB fitted. If others bring their's what channel shall we use? Is 25 the usual 80-90 one?

Sorted a route today in one Syncro with Simon and Roger and we have decided to have one route for all.

We cleared any branches but there is still a bit of foliage hanging here and there. If was damaging I would not have driven it so should be fine for everyone. There are a couple of extra hardcore loops on the way for the braver types and one very interesting hill climb near the end which everyone should try...

Found a great lunch stop at a pub which is cheap, friendly and booked.

There may be the odd bit where 2WD will struggle but we can decide that on the way, the rest should be ok.

I have a GPS route plotted based on the track recorded today. I can e-mail this to anyone who wants it. It is available in the .gdb format for Garmins and also the generic .gpx

Any last minute queries...?

Well Roger Mal and me had an excellent day touring all new lanes (for Mal and me) in the region of Devon between Futbus at Bovey, and Ashburton. We have come up with a plan, and at the expense of 'extreme off roading' we have got a mixture of lanes that will suit everyone (we hope).

We have found an excellent hostelry for lunch, and for your benefit partook in a small lunch, and tasted the beer. It was great, and the pub has a catchy name of "The Live and let Live" It has a large carpark and reserved seating.

There are several lanes that are a bit testing, and those can be left out easily. After lunch near Liverton is an excellent playground of a network of lanes with some really steep slippery rock climbs and decents. these can be done by all we reckon, and if you dont like the look of it can be ignored as it is most fun to go down it, then up.

We have cut back a good deal of overhanging branches, and my hightop will fit through all but one (fingers crossed as we went in mal bus)

If the time is right at the end there is an opportunity to do a long lane into the heart of Dartmoor and then back via Haytor Rocks, which rock, especially at sunset.

The mileage is not high, and we will travel loosely in two groups not far apart, the lanes are not frequented by pedestrians.

Hope to see the M5 contingent at around 0830, and the rest of you at 0930 at Futbus's.

Turn off the A38 at Drumbridges Trago turn, head towards Bovey Tracy, turn right at the traffic lights (just past the traffic lights is a petrol station at 108.9 for unleaded and 110.9 for diesel) go past Mole Valley Farmers and then turn left at the shop into Cavalier Road. daves is next to 2020 plastics.

See you there,

Now to go and fill the syncro with gearbox oil.

Simon.

Has anyone got any cb aerial coax and connectors they can bring with them? Or a mag mount with lead perhaps?

Phil has a cb plugged in and a springy aerial ready to go, but no coax/mount.

Anyone?

Hi all. Due to no success with my vc situation, I am going to give the day out a miss. Thanks to all for the offers of a ride, but I really wanted to take the doka out for its first venture off road in full four wheel drive. I hope you all have an awesome day out! I look forward to seeing the pictures! Cheers and thanks to all who organised. Matt
