Have you thought about putting it on a rolling road after completion Paul? Will be interesting to see the figures/results after a complete rebuild and how that might change over time.

No not really, sounds expensive.
After reliability not power, went DJ just so I can tow without crawling up hills ( and because bits became available) . I don't need to tow but thinking of a boat or small c***van in future.

No worries Paul although you might be pleasantly surprised mate - chap local to me was going to charge £90 but that was for a full set up with tuning etc. Just thought would be interesting to see what the bhp/rpm figures were with your new engine.

Seems a shame to rip this out as it's going so well and only been in 5 months...

yep, it's the same engine case, the only difference is the crank, cam, pistons, dizzy and oil cooler.
of course a DJ is injection but it will run in a 2e3 carb as the DG does.

One of the best build threads for a long time, nearly as detailed as the build itself, I've been keeping an eye out for updates for a few days now.
Are you fitting a remote oil cooler or fitting the standard one?

standard oil cooler, it was already there on my DG to help with low oil pressure

Are you saying you would fit this?
I drilled a hole to relieve the crack.
What concerns me is a crack in an Aircooled here would not leak coolant, so may not be an issue.

Excellent story line here.
Question Itchy - now you have a DJ engine, will that mean your LPG will need setting up again, or should it not matter?
I'm thinking different compression values and volumes etc...

I have closed loop with a lambda sensor so the system will automatically compensate I think it's always trying to keep the mix stoich, my air fuel guage tells me its pretty good at it.

What I need to get around to is a throttle position sensor to help rapid acceleration, its a bit slow to respond because it just uses the lambda sensor at the moment, so foot hard down it's lean for a second while the system reponds.
My guess is open loop needs readjusting but I may be wrong.
