Not sure any mechanic would agree to that !

Tyres are 185/14 bridgstone van type

He wouldn't have to agree to it. Pay for parts and not for labour if they are wrong. They need to put their money where their mouths are. Just plumping for things is well out of order but seems to be the accepted thing. Does my head in. Good job I have found a quality mechanic.

You could drop unlucky and have a worn out camshaft, my CU had good compression on all cylinders would rev up fine and drive on the flat but would get overtaken by a granny on a zimmer frame up the slightest incline. I striped it down and rebuilt with a stock grind replacement camshaft as the lobes on the old one were worn flat  now goes up hills fine and will sit at 65 no problem fully laden.

Re: How can I make my van faster up hills/PART2 CURED !

Cured !

Got the van back today after 7 days at the mechanic (he didnt spend 7 days on it !)

Carbs rebuilt, timing set, test drive got to 65mph I didn't go any faster...but thats a great improvement will give it a proper test at the weekend.

Only thing I had to do was the idle was set too low so adjusted both idle screws on the side of carbs and this stopped the almost stalling (mechanic is now away for 2 weeks) I guess this was right to do ?

Thank you for all your help/advice etc

Now can we start fresh ?

NB Rolling road will have to wait till later in the summer to many other things to pay for !

adjusted both idle screws on the side of carbs

There's only one idle screw on the top of the left hand carb. If you've adjusted the volume / mixture screws at the bottom of the carbs then you've done the wrong thing.

How many van's do you have?

Yesterday you were revving the nuts of one. Now you've just got one back after seven days with your mechanic.

?

The screw with the black arrow adjusts the mixture. Their base-line setting is screwed all the way in (not too tight) and then backed out 2 1/2 turns. The idle is adjusted by the single screw on the top of the carb, I think it's a 6mm hex.
